GLEN BURNIE, MD — One driver is dead and three more are hospitalized after a wrong-way crash in Glen Burnie, county police announced Tuesday.

Officers identified the deceased man as 46-year-old Daniel Calvert of Pasadena. Authorities expect the other drivers, who are all adults, to survive. Police said one involved driver was not hurt.

The multi-vehicle wreck happened Monday around 11 p.m. on westbound Maryland Route 100 between Oakwood Road and Quarterfield Road, a press release said.

Officers alleged that 47-year-old Kenya Johnson of Glen Burnie was driving a 2009 Lexus SUV eastbound in the westbound travel lanes. That Lexus SUV then hit a 2011 Honda Civic sedan head-on, authorities said.

Police said the late Calvert was driving a 1994 Chevrolet van west at the same time when he rounded a curve in the roadway and hit the Lexus SUV head-on.

The Chevrolet van then started to spin when it was struck by a 2022 Chevrolet truck that was towing a Loadrite trailer carrying two jet skis, officers said. The Chevrolet truck came to a controlled stop, but both jet skis were thrown from the trailer.

Authorities said the Chevrolet van continued toward the right shoulder, left the roadway and overturned in a wooded area.

A westbound 2014 Lexus ES 350 sedan rounded the curve in the roadway and sideswiped the eastbound Lexus SUV, police said.

Officers said this caused it to rotate and come to rest in the center median of Route 100.

The Chevrolet truck driver was not injured, but authorities said the three other survivors were hospitalized.

Police said medics took the Chevrolet van driver to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he died soon after.

Officials said they later took the victim's body to the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of Calvert's death.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department is still investigating. Detectives did not speculate what caused the crash or announce any charges.
