12U Team Represents Maryland in Ripken World Series
The PG Select BlueSox 12U team will compete against 10 teams from the U.S. and eight international teams.
The Prince George’s County’s Select BlueSox 12U team will represent Team Maryland at the 2014 Cal Ripken World Series.
The 15th annual Cal Ripken World Series takes place from Friday, Aug. 8 to Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Ripken Experience Aberdeen Powered by Under Armour Complex. This culminating tournament of the Babe Ruth League’s 12U Cal Ripken Division brings together 11- and 12-year-old players from the top 10 teams from the United States and eight international teams, including teams from New Zealand and Puerto Rico, for a week of competition.
“Congratulations to the PG Select BlueSox from Maryland for qualifying for the 15th annual tournament,” said Cal Ripken Jr., baseball Hall of Famer and Ripken Baseball founder, in a press release. “Each year, this event showcases the next generation of baseball with the best 12U baseball players on the planet. We look forward to hosting the PG Select BlueSox in Aberdeen and creating an experience that they will remember for a lifetime.”

Opening ceremonies kick off Aug. 8 at the arena and the BlueSox will play their first game Saturday, Aug. 9, at 5:30 p.m.
Each team will play up to eight games during pool play from Aug. 9 to 13. Pool play will be followed by single-elimination competition beginning Aug. 14 to determine the teams playing in the International Championship and U.S. Championship games.
