1. 15 years of FBI headquarters delays have cost taxpayers millions Posted: Aug 23, 2026 Slug: BC-FBI-HEADQUARTERS-DELAYS:BZ (EDITORS: Clients are reminded that this story, and others moving via Tribune (havasunews.com) — Greenbelt has been re-confirmed as the future FBI headquarters site after a federal judge overturned a Trump-era plan to renovate Washington's Ronald Reagan Building instead. Years of political reversals and delays have already driven projected costs from about $2 billion to roughly $4 billion, with Maryland leaders warning that any appeal of the ruling could further postpone construction and economic benefits for Greenbelt.
   

2. Basket full of Marshalls merchandise vanishes after suspect switches appearance (shorenewsnetwork.com) — Greenbelt Police are asking residents to help identify a man accused of stealing $600–$700 in merchandise from the Marshalls at 6000 Greenbelt Road after changing his appearance inside the store. The August 18 afternoon theft ended with the suspect fleeing toward a nearby parking garage, and investigators believe he may be tied to previous incidents at the same location.
   

3. Postdoctoral Position – Atmospheric Sciences, Radiative Transfer, and Remote Sensing (uw.edu) — A new NASA postdoctoral fellowship based at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt offers one- to three-year research positions in atmospheric science, radiative transfer, and remote sensing, with applications due November 1, 2026. Local scientists and recent PhDs can work on satellite data, aerosols, clouds, and climate-related studies while collaborating directly with NASA Earth science researchers.
   

4. Fauci's role in top aide's guilty plea to Covid origins conspiracy (washingtonexaminer.com) — A former senior adviser to Dr. Anthony Fauci appeared in federal court in Greenbelt this spring on charges tied to concealing COVID-19 records, part of a wider national controversy over the pandemic's origins. His guilty plea has intensified congressional scrutiny of Fauci and federal health agencies, but Greenbelt's role is limited to hosting key court proceedings at the local U.S. District Court.
