1. 8 FREE Events in the DMV This Month (washingtonfamily.com) — Greenbelt's annual Labor Day Festival kicks off this weekend at the Historic Roosevelt Center, with four days of rides, games, kids' contests, and adult activities. Running Sept. 4–7, it's free to attend and offers everything from a pet show to a quirky diaper derby, giving Greenbelt residents an easy, walkable way to celebrate the long weekend close to home.
2. Left on the Curb: PGCPS Hears From Parents and Bus Drivers (greenbeltnewsreview.com) — Greenbelt families are still facing long bus delays, missing routes, and severe traffic around Dora Kennedy French Immersion and Robert Goddard Montessori after a chaotic first week of school. Parents and bus drivers packed a recent PGCPS board meeting demanding safer routes, shorter rides, and accountability for the failed Chipmunk app and co-location traffic planning. Officials say some fixes are underway, but many Greenbelt students remain stranded or late.
3. Some Metro lines to operate on different schedule during Labor Day weekend (wtop.com) — If you rely on Greenbelt Metro, expect major changes this Labor Day weekend. The Green Line will not run between Greenbelt and Hyattsville Crossing from Saturday through Monday, and both Greenbelt and College Park-U of Md. stations will be closed, with free shuttle buses every 8–10 minutes while crews upgrade signaling and clear vegetation. Other lines run mostly normally, but Yellow service is shortened.
4. NASA's Roman Telescope Clears First Deployments and Begins a Three Month Commissioning Run (natureworldnews.com) — NASA's new Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope has launched successfully, and mission control is being run from NASA Goddard right here in Greenbelt. Over the next three months, local teams will guide it toward its deep-space orbit and begin commissioning instruments that will eventually deliver unprecedented views of dark energy, exoplanets, and distant galaxies.
