Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. WSSC Water urges essential water use only after power outage at Potomac plant (mdstatewire.com) — Greenbelt residents are being asked to immediately limit water use to essentials after a power outage at WSSC's Potomac Water Filtration Plant, which supplies most local drinking water. The city has already closed the Greenbelt Aquatic & Fitness Center pool and showers, and officials warn low pressure, service loss, or even a future boil-water advisory are possible if demand doesn't drop while repairs continue.
2. City Mulls Fire/EMS Support, Indian Creek and Annexation (greenbeltnewsreview.com) — Greenbelt's City Council is pushing back on a county plan to cut 24/7 EMS coverage, arguing the ambulance unit should stay based in the city where most calls are medical. Council also advanced the Indian Creek park master plan for Greenbelt Station, approved annexation of a green parcel near Good Luck Road and the Beltway, and discussed new bike-share stations and recent Roosevelt Center repairs.
3. What's New at the New Deal? Volunteers, Menus, Hours … (greenbeltnewsreview.com) — Greenbelt's New Deal Café is reinventing itself with a new menu, adjusted hours, and a strong volunteer-powered board keeping the doors open. Local residents are pitching in as bartenders, dishwashers, baristas, and committee members, even launching a morning coffee klatch to keep the space lively. Anyone interested can sign up for shifts or consider running for the volunteer board.
4. 2026 Fall Pumpkin Festival Is On, with Future Uncertain (greenbeltnewsreview.com) — Greenbelt's beloved Pumpkin Festival is moving ahead this October with multiple carving events and evening Pumpkin Walks at Schrom Hills Park, Roosevelt Center, North Woods, and Beltway Plaza. But longtime organizer Stacy Stewart is stepping down, and without new coordinators the nearly 40-year tradition could end after this year. Residents are urged to volunteer, donate, or join a new planning committee to keep it alive.
5. Multifamily Investment Firm Bozzuto Relocating HQ in Maryland (commercialobserver.com) — Bozzuto is shifting its corporate headquarters from Greenbelt to the Maple Lawn development in Howard County, moving about 225 employees there in early 2027. The company will keep its Greenbelt office as a corporate services hub, meaning some local jobs and operations will remain. The move is part of a broader reshuffling of Bozzuto's regional offices.
