Back-To-School Brigade Provides School Supplies to Military Kids

Backpacks can be picked up at two locations in Prince George's County

Military families in need of school supplies can turn to the Back-to-School Brigade, an initiative of Operation Homefront Metro DC to ensure the children of servicemembers are ready for class in the fall.

The Back-to-School Brigade provides backpacks filled with school supplies to children with parents serving in the military free of charge.

Families interested in receiving supplies can sign up online. Backpacks will be reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Backpacks can be picked up at three locations in Prince George’s County:

  • Lanham, MD: Ft. Meade, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Annapolis (Wednesday, Aug. 14, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

  • Morningside, MD: Andrews Air Force Base, Navy Yard, Pentagon, Joint Base Anacostia (Thursday, Aug. 15, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

  • The school supplies are available through donations to Operation Homefront and collections at Dollar Tree stores.

    Operation Homefront Metro DC is a nonprofit that provides emergency services and financial assistance to families of active duty officers and wounded warriors in Maryland, Virginia and DC.
