SPECIAL SYNAPLEX SHABBAT AT MISHKAN TORAH TO CELEBRATE EARTH DAY ON APRIL 20

Come celebrate Earth Day and commemorate environmentalism with a Jewish touch at a special Synaplex Shabbat at Mishkan Torah on Saturday, April 20, 2013.

Come celebrate Earth Day and commemorate environmentalism with a Jewish touch at a special Synaplex Shabbat on Saturday, April 20, 2013. Shabbat morning that day will be filled with a number of activities for all age groups, all of which will share an Earth Day and environmental theme.

The day will begin at 9:30 am with the traditional Mishkan Torah Saturday morning service. The service will include a sermon by Rabbi Jonathan Cohen and a subsequent discussion on a Jewish environmental theme.

The Karp Family School will commence its morning meeting at 10:00 am, which session will feature stories and songs having an Earth Day theme.

There will be an alternative service led by Darelynn Fung and Rebecca Lemus starting at 10:30 am. The service’s format will be that of a prayer circle which will use the traditional service as a guideline, but which will add other means of prayer focusing on Jewish environmentalism. The service will be held outdoors if the weather permits.

The youngest part of the population can participate in the Earth Day commemorations as well as the older folks. At 11:00 am, there will be a Tot Shabbat for families with children five years old or younger.  There will be stories, songs, and crafts which revolve around Earth Day and snacks will be provided. Bret Goldstein will lend his talents to leading the Tot Shabbat.

The morning programs will conclude for all at a Kiddush to be held at approximately 12:30 pm.  The Kiddush too will have an Earth Day theme. The Social Action Committee, which is co-sponsoring the Kiddush, will be passing out environmentally themed literature.

Celebrate Earth Day and explore Jewish environmentalism by joining in one of more of these activities. See you at the special Earth Day Synaplex Shabbat on April 20!
