Dear Prince George's County Public Schools Community,

Dear Prince George’s County Public Schools Community,

Find out what's happening in Greenbeltfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

Over the past several months, we have explored the impact of anticipated student enrollment growth challenges in Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) as part of our Comprehensive School Boundary Initiative.

Many of our schools are over capacity while others are under capacity or need revitalization. While we do not take lightly the potential impact of a change in school boundaries on our students and parents, making these adjustments now will help to provide all students with the educational experiences they deserve.

Today, the school system released an interim report for the boundary initiative, which presents findings from the first phase of data analysis and community engagement, including three draft plans and maps depicting potential future boundaries. I want to thank all of the families, educators and students who attended our community conversations in January. We heard your concerns about health and safety, overcrowding, facilities, specialty programs and more. We could not have gotten this far without your input.

We want to be sure you know about the report release because it marks the beginning of another critical phase of community engagement. Public input will play a key role in the final decision regarding selection and implementation. Please read the full report and/or report summary; use the interactive boundary scenario tool we’ve developed to see how each plan may impact your neighborhood schools and families; and complete our Feedback Survey to share opinions about the factors that matter most to you – our students, parents, families and educators – as you reviewed the scenarios.

We’re getting closer to the completion of this initiative. Your input during the spring and summer months will inform another round of community engagement activities taking place this fall. The Boundary Initiative will conclude by February 2022 with recommended boundary changes offered to the Prince George’s County Board of Education for their approval. Potential boundary changes will be phased in starting with the 2022-23 school year.

Your input is more important now than ever. Read the summary, the full reportuse the interactive tooltake the survey – and be sure to encourage others you know to do the same by sharing this message.

I appreciate your continued support and participation.
