Just beyond the Prince George's County line on Route 214 are a number of kid-friendly farms and nurseries, the largest of which is Homestead Gardens where corn mazes, holiday train displays and many other free activities attract families from miles around. The events calendar, posted on the Homestead website, is jam-packed with weekend fun, but not-to-be-missed is the fall festival and holiday happenings. Oktoberfest begins Oct. 9 and an open house Nov. 6 kicks off the holiday season, with visits from Santa Nov. 27-Dec. 19.
