FLL Robotics and Hackerspace plans

GreenSTEMs sponsors a Sci/Tech ideas meeting, the first Wednesday of every month, 7-9pm, in room 114 of the Greenbelt Community Center.

The FIRST LEGO League season (for 4th-8th grade students) officially started last week when the "Senior Solutions" robot competition rules and research topics were announced. I'll have the FLL competition game set up and we'll start to brainstorm how to design and build a competitive robot. I'm coaching four teams this Fall, two from Magnolia ES and two from Greenbelt ES. There is still time to form your own team, I'll show you how, but you need to act fast or come observe and make plans for next year. If your kids attend Magnolia or Greenbelt, our after-school robotics clubs start meeting next week. Contact me for more details.

As "Senior Solutions" should imply, the research topic this year will require each student team to partner with a senior (over 60), discuss their life and what it means to get older, identify one specific problem to research, and ultimately propose an innovative solution to that problem. So get your critical-thinking caps on and join the fun!

Also join in a discussion to help create a technology activity center, aka hackerspace; a community operated place where people can meet, socialize and collaborate to share resources and knowledge to build and make things.

My passion is micro-electronics, computers, and robotics. What is your interest? Come, tell us what kind of space, tools, equipment, and training you need to make your dream projects come to life!
