MISHKAN TORAH TO PRESENT HOLOCAUST -THEMED FILM

The film, "No Place on Earth," tells the story of Jewish Families who hid underground for nearly a year and a half during the Holocaust.

The Adult Education Committee of Mishkan Torah Synagogue is proud to present a thought provoking and timely program on Sunday, April 12 at 10:30 am. This 83-minute moviec relates to the theme of Yom HaShoah, which will be on April 16. Yom HaShoah is the day in the Jewish calendar which memorializes the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis and their allies during the Holocaust of World War II.

It is the Ukraine on October 1942. Esther Stermer, along with some family members and a group of other families, seeks asylum underground to evade being caught by pursuing Nazis. They remain hidden below for nearly a year and a half- the longest recorded uninterrupted underground survival occurrence.

Their harrowing story is unearthed by accident when cave explorer Chris Nicola stumbles upon remnants left behind by the cave dwellers. Through extensive research and determination, Nicola locates a few of the survivors and has them share their incredible story of strength and perseverance.

This is an unforgettable story of survival in an environment that no one would imagine could support 38 men, women, and children from the ages of 2 to 76 for 18 months. It is a triumph of will and bravery. The movie will begin at 10:30. Admission is free, and the general public is invited and welcome. Light refreshments will be available for purchase at the Coffee Klatch, starting at 10:00. MishkanTorah is located at 10 Ridge Road in Greenbelt.
