The Social Action Committee of Mishkan Torah invites the community to a special presentation: Water Availability in Israel, Now and in the Year 2020, by Professor Jhonathan (Yoni) Ephrath, of the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev .The presentation will be held on Thursday, May 8th Mishkan Torah Synagogue, 10 Ridge Road, in Greenbelt.
Dr. Ephrath will be discussing the situation of water in Israel and in neighboring countries. His talk will include topics such as:
• Methods used in Israel to decrease the use of water
• Uses of recycled water in agriculture in Israel
• Ways to increase water use efficiency of plants
• Description of the of the use state-of –the-art techniques for irrigation
Professor Ephrath has special expertise in the field of plant science. He studies how the roots of plants grow under different stresses (for example, salinity, drought, high temperature, wind erosion, competition and weeds). Dr. Ephrath also works to describe the behavior of plant crops using mathematical equations (crop modeling).
As part of the presentation, Professor Ephrath will describe projects at Ben-Gurion University, Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert studies and the Albert Katz International School for Desert Studies.
