Police: Body of Former D.C. Treasurer Found in Chillum Park

Prince George's County Police say Lasana Mack, former Washington, D.C. treasurer, likely died of a suicide.

The body of Lasana Mack, former Washington, D.C. treasurer, has been found in a Prince George’s County park in an apparent suicide, according to police.

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating the death in Chillum. While detectives are awaiting confirmation of the identity, they believe the victim is Mack, who was recently reported missing in Washington, D.C.

Officers were called about 4:30 p.m. Saturday to Chillum Hills Park in the 1100 block of Parker Avenue on a report of a man’s body along a trail.

Metropolitan Police issued a critical missing person alert for Mack, 51, on Saturday, reports the Washington Business Journal. He was last seen Sept. 13 in the 2200 block of Taylor Street Northeast, near his home.

The preliminary investigation reveals no signs of foul play, and the death appears to be a suicide, police say. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will confirm the decedent’s identity, which could take several days or possibly weeks.

Mack served seven years as treasurer, the Business Journal says, leaving the Office of the Chief Financial Officer in July 2012. In 2013, he founded the nonprofit APPEAL Inc., which is designed to provide financial, cultural and historical literacy programs to the African community.
