The Public is Welcome to Mishkan Torah’s First “Reverse Tashlich” To Clean Up Beaverdam Creek
Mishkan Torah’s Social Action Committee is proud to present its first-ever “Reverse Taschlich” on Sunday, October 13, 2013 from nine am to noon. Traditionally performed on Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year), “Tashlich” refers to the Jewish custom of throwing crumbs into a body of water to symbolically rid oneself of bad habits. In a modern twist, Mishkan Torah is sponsoring a “Reverse Tashlich,” to reverse the effects of bad habits by helping to clean up a local stream. The stream to be cleaned is the Long Branch, which is also known as the Goddard Branch, of Beaverdam Creek. All are welcome to this stream cleanup, which is being organized in conjunction with the Beaverdam Creek Watershed Watch Group. The meeting
place will be between the end of Northway and the City of Greenbelt’s mulch
To participate, just show up on Sunday, October 13 at nine am with boots or sturdy shoes, work gloves, a water bottle, and long pants which can get wet. Participants should be prepared to navigate one steep portion of the slope. To learn more about Beaverdam Creek and its Watershed Watch Group, visit www.beaverdamcreek.org.
