Aberdeen Police Chase Ends in Fatal Shooting at Maryland House: Officials
The ramp to Maryland House from southbound Interstate 95 will be closed for several hours, police said.
A burglary suspect in Aberdeen gave chase Friday morning that resulted in an injured officer, several rammed vehicles and the suspect's death on the entrance ramp to the Maryland House rest stop on Interstate 95, Maryland State Police reported.
Before 2:30 a.m. Friday, the Aberdeen Police Department responded to a burglary at the Target at 1025 Middleton Road, according to the report.
When officers saw the suspect fleeing the store, the suspect rammed his vehicle into an Aberdeen police car, injuring the officer and disabling the car, police said.
The suspect rammed additional police cars, belonging to Maryland State Police and the Aberdeen Police Department, in a chase on north and southbound Interstate 95, according to the report.
Officials said the pursuit ended on the entrance ramp to the Maryland House rest area from I-95 south, where police fired at the suspect, who was the only person in the vehicle. The suspect, who has not been identified, was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Authorities from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit are at the scene investigating, according to the report.
The Maryland House ramp from southbound I-95 is expected to be closed for several hours as investigators process the crime scene, police said.
Traffic on southbound I-95 will not be affected, according to the report.
