About Our Family and Kidsave

Meet the Skaggs family, in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Chris works a full time job in Baltimore in the solid waste industry. Marycarol is an at-home mom to their three children, Andee (20), Mitchell (17) and Daniela (17). While Marycarol had previously been involved with orphan ministry, specifically in China, they had never considered expanding their family by adoption. Until they met Daniela, that is!

Daniela was already 12 years old when she visited the US for the first time through Kidsave’s Summer Miracles program in 2009. She was hosted by friends of Marycarol and Chris, and had a fun summer. Chris felt God’s calling to adopt Daniela not once, but three times! The third time was when, completely out of the blue, Marycarol mentioned her to him: “What would you think if we adopted her?” So they were off and running—paperwork, social worker visits, all the arrangements they needed to make, and Daniela came home just 12 months after that summer with her host family.

Since then, Chris and Marycarol have remained involved with Kidsave. They have opened their home and hearts to children hosted elsewhere to provide respite as needed. They advocated for Daniela’s younger sister to be hosted in their home town, which resulted in her adoption by her host family. They also hosted her younger brother, advocating for him to find his forever family. Which he did!

Chris and Marycarol are very grateful to Kidsave for introducing them to their daughter, and wholeheartedly support the work they do on behalf of orphans here in the U.S. and around the world. Every opportunity they have they like to talk about Kidsave to raise awareness of the need and of their work. They will be hosting again this summer, and are very confident that the right family will be found for Monica, Diana and Jeimy.
