Air Purifier Caused Aberdeen Blaze, Fire Marshal Says

Aberdeen, Level, APG and the Susquehanna Hose Company reportedly responded.

A house fire in Aberdeen Monday was caused by a malfunctioning air purifier, the Maryland state fire marshal reported.

At 1:55 p.m. on Monday, 30 firefighters from the Susquehanna Hose Company, Level Volunteer Fire Company, APG and Aberdeen Fire Department responded to a house fire in the unit block of Grant Street, the report said.

A passerby discovered the blaze at the one-story, single-family residence, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

First responders were called for a rescue but did not locate anyone, according to the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association. Nobody was home at the time of the fire, the Office of the State Fire Marshal reported.

Within 10 minutes, the fire marshal said the blaze was contained.

The fire began in a bedroom and was caused by an air purifier that malfunctioned, according to the report.

As a result, there was $25,000 in structural damage, and $15,000 worth of items inside the home were damaged, the report said.

According to the fire marshal, the family was being assisted by the Red Cross.
