HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Three separate grants have been awarded to Harford County Public Schools totaling $2.4 million to support the district's energy efficiency efforts.
The grants, awarded by the Maryland Energy Administration's Decarbonizing Public Schools Grant Program, will be used to fund several school system initiatives.
Harford County Public Schools plans to expand its energy data analysis and management capabilities, pursue additional solar energy generation opportunities beyond the district’s current 10 schools with solar installations and replace energy recovery HVAC equipment throughout the county.
“These investments provide meaningful opportunities to strengthen our sustainability efforts while improving the efficiency of our school facilities,” said Dyann R. Mack, superintendent of Harford County Public Schools. “By leveraging innovative technologies and renewable
energy solutions, we can reduce energy consumption, lower operating costs and create healthier learning environments for students and staff.”
The funding aligns with HCPS’s ongoing efforts to reduce its environmental impact while enhancing the performance and reliability of school infrastructure, the district stated.
Expanded energy management and solar initiatives will help the district better monitor and optimize energy use, while upgraded HVAC equipment will improve energy recovery and operational efficiency in school buildings, school officials said.
