Driver Killed In Crash During Police Chase ID'd By Attorney General's Office

BELCAMP, MD — The driver killed in a June 9 collision during a police pursuit with a Harford County sheriff's deputy has been identified by the Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General.

On Friday, the IID released the body-worn camera footage from the fatal police-involved collision that happened in Belcamp.

The driver killed in the crash has been identified as 45-year-old Tremayne Murphy of Edgewood.

The crash happened around 3:25 p.m. on June 9 on Route 40 near Riverside Parkway, according to the Attorney General's Office. Investigators said a Harford County Sheriff's Office deputy attempted to stop a car on Route 40 and activated emergency lights and sirens. The driver sped away before colliding with another vehicle at the intersection of Route 40 and Riverside Parkway.

The initial collision triggered a chain-reaction crash involving four other cars, authorities said. A total of five vehicles were involved, and each was occupied only by its driver.

The fleeing vehicle caught fire, investigators said, and the flames spread to one of the other vehicles involved in the crash.

The fleeing driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other drivers were taken to area hospitals with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. No deputies were injured, according to authorities.

The involved deputy has been identified as HCSO Senior Deputy Allen Jennings, a 10-year veteran. Jennings is assigned to the sheriff's office's K-9 unit.
