MATINEE: HHS Does 'Annie Get Your Gun'

Havre de Grace High School's spring musical is this weekend.

Some of the greatest showtunes of all time will be performed all weekend at .

Students at Havre de Grace will perform Irving Berlin's "Annie Get Your Gun," starring senior Elise Starkey as Annie Oakley.

"It’s a newer version of it. It was remade about 15 years ago, and that’s the production we’re doing," producer told this week.

The show debuts at 7 p.m. Friday, with another and a matinee finale at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Students can get in for $7, while tickets for adults are $10.

The story follows the real-life tale of Annie Oakley, the sharpshooter who joins Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show.

The performers and crew will take advantage of 16 wireless mics and an upgraded system at the renowned HHS auditorium.

"This is the debut of the new equipment Harford County purchased for us. Brand new lighting system, brand new sound system. All total, it was about a half-million-dollar project," Hauf said. "We’re really using it well. It’s awfully exciting."

And while listening to the crisp new sound in the auditorium, don't be surprised if you find yourself singing along.

Hauf noted the performance features popular songs like "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better" and "There’s No Business Like Show Business," some staples of Berlin's work

"That’s the same guy who did White Christmas and God Bless America," Hauf said. "He's one of our great song writers."
