Susan Dougherty is the featured artist for Arts by the Bay Gallery’s Midsummer Exhibit

Susan Dougherty moved to Havre de Grace from Florida in 1973. She has lived in Havre de Grace for the last 40 years. Susan has a son Merrill Jr. a daughter in law Katie and two beautiful grandchildren. Merrill, Katie and her grandchildren are the loves of her life.
Susan is teaching her four year old grandson about colors and painting. They draw and paint together as often as they can. She hopes to instill the desire and knowledge she has to allow him to pursue this path if he chooses.
Susan has always been interested in art and especially sketching. In high school she found herself taking all the art classes she could. Originally wanting to become a commercial artist, things did not go in that direction. Susan got married and moved to Maryland. Many years passed and she never pursued art. 


A year and a half ago Susan was given a fabulous gift. Her boyfriend Joe Squires gave her acrylic paints along with art lessons. Joe is now her biggest fan and Susan is now enjoying something she had always wanted to do but didn’t know she could.

Susan’s inspiration has been her instructor and wonderful friend Eleanor Mulholland. Susan is mastering the technique of sketching with charcoal and is currently using pastels. Now that the world of art has opened up for Susan, she plans to develop her skills in oil painting next.

You will be able to see Susan’s art at the Havre de Grace Art show this year.
She is working on her own art gallery and studio and expects to have it opened by the end of September.
Susan has learned that dreams do come true. Sometimes they take time and happen when you least expect but they really do come true.
