Barn Fire In Port Deposit Blamed On Extermination

The fire marshal said that a smoke bomb caused a barn fire in Port Deposit.

PORT DEPOSIT, MD — An attempt to exterminate rodents in Port Deposit backfired when the smoke bomb started a fire, according to authorities.

At 8:48 p.m. on Sunday, a neighbor discovered the blaze at a two-story barn in the 40 block of Abrahams Road. About 20 firefighters responded and brought the incident under control within 10 minutes.

There was $15,000 in damage to the wood-framed barn, according to the fire marshal.

The cause was ruled accidental, due to using a smoke bomb/gasser to exterminate rodents.
