Barn Fire Under Investigation Off Route 136

All the animals survived barn fire in Harford County, officials said.

Authorities say they are investigating a recent barn fire that caused $300,000 in damage off MD 136/Calvary Road. No animals perished in the blaze, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Approximately 60 firefighters worked for three hours to bring the blaze under control after a passerby reported it in the 1700 block of Calvary Road at 7:10 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, the fire marshal said. Members of the Susquehanna Hose Company were among those responding to the call.

As crews from multiple fire companies battled the fire, smoke was visible from as far away as the Harford Mall, according to Mike Laslo, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

There was $200,000 in structural damage to the 120-by-180-foot single-story wooden barn, the fire marshal reported. In addition, $100,000 worth of items inside were also lost, according to the report.

The Abingdon Fire Company reported that the animals were out to pasture at the time of the blaze.

The fire began inside the barn; however, a cause has not been determined, according to the fire marshal.
