Best Of Winner: Vancherie's Union Avenue Cafe

Vancherie's had twice the votes and twice the comments of any other candidate.

The people of Havre de Grace have spoken.

They said the best spot for breakfast in town is , after the small, family-run business garnered twice the votes and twice the comments of the second-highest recipient.

"That's awesome," Vancherie's owner said by phone Friday. Fitzgerald, who has been recovering from surgery for the last two weeks, said her husband, Carroll, and the staff at the restaurant deserve the credit for the honor.

Patch opened the voting Monday morning and closed it Friday morning, asking readers to vote on the best spot for breakfast.

Vancherie's got 93 votes in the unscientific poll, with bringing in 46 and receiving 29. (13 votes) and (11 votes) also received some solid support from the community.

Vancherie's also has a four-star rating on its directory listing. McDonald's (four stars) and Chesapeake Grille (three stars) are also rated positively by Havre de Grace Patch readers.

A commenter "fiona" wrote: "Vancheries uses only fresh foods, and totally serve the best food. Giant omelets, pancakes, etc mean you wont be hungry for hours. So good, every day."

Next week, Patch is looking for the "Best Gym." The voting begins at 9 a.m. on Monday.
