Blazin Ray's to Replace Fast Eddie's Pit Beef

Blazin Rays isn’t open yet, but that doesn’t keep people from trying.

As Deward Ray explained his restaurant concept in the space where Fast Eddie's Pit Beef used to be, hopeful customers still tried the door handle, looking for some pit beef.

They won't have to wait long, according to Ray, who plans to open by Nov. 1.

"We're hoping to have a hangout spot with good food that's affordable," Ray said.

The menu will offer favorites like pit beef, homemade burgers, fried pickles and shrimp but it will also offer some additional fare.

There will be six to eight entrees like shrimp and crab pasta and calamari, according to Ray.

He said he was especially excited about the fact that diners could see their food being cooked on the grill. "With fire, all things are possible," Ray said.

Ray has extensive experience in the culinary arts. He was the executive chef at the Tidewater Grille, past partner at Price’s Seafood and is co-owner with his wife, Theresa Riedal, of the cafe Sweet Devotion next door.

Ray, who used to have a home remodeling business, is currently sprucing up the interior and getting the proper permits before the Nov. 1 opening.

In the meantime, he is also hoping to hire cooks and counter help. Stop by Sweet Devotion (1834c Pulaski Hwy.) to pick up an application. "Respectable, well-groomed individuals" are encouraged to apply, Ray said. "Food knowledge isn't necessary but a willingness to learn is."
