Cleaning Up Harford's Messiest Closet

The second annual Harford's Messiest Closet Contest awarded one winner a much-needed closet makeover that included up to eight hours of professional organizing.

The second annual Harford’s Messiest Closet Contest awarded one winner a much-needed closet makeover that included up to eight hours of professional organizing services provided by local organizers Sappari Solutions.

Coinciding with the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) Get Organized Month (Go Month), Sappari Solutions partnered with Everything Goes! Consignments and More to organize the contest. “While we were excited to have more than double our entrants from last year’s contest,” said Sappari Solutions owner Nettie Owens, “it made choosing just one winner difficult since they were all so deserving.”

The winner of this year’s contest lives in a house that was built in the 1930’s and has very few closets. In part the winning entry read: “The closets that we have are small; three are built into the eaves, requiring one to bend over Quasimodo style, to get in. Most of the closets do not have lighting. I often use my camping headlight when I need to find something.”

Sappari Solutions organizer Michelle Twining spent four hours sorting through the clutter in the winner’s closet, grouping like items together and setting aside gently used items that could be consigned. Once Sappari Solutions was finished, Everything Goes! Consignments and More was on hand to select the best items for consignment.

“It’s refreshing to begin the year with clean, organized spaces in your home. The winner was so thankful for our help and now has three garbage bags of items to donate or give away and two garbage bags of trash,” says Owens. Entrants who were not selected as the winner of the Harford’s Messiest Closet Contest were offered a discounted organizing package to clean and reorganize the closet they submitted.
