Havre de Grace Sunrise 365

Day 80 of taking daily Havre de Grace sunrise photos.

For the past 80 mornings, I’ve gotten out of bed early to check weather conditions before rushing to different spots along the Havre de Grace shoreline in hopes of capturing a memorable image of the sunrise. The sunrises as seen from this town are breathtaking and sometimes it's so easy to take things for granted.

For better or worse, I’ve named this little experiment “Havre de Grace Sunrise 365.” There is no real expectation of capturing every sunrise for an entire year, that’s way too much to hope for. Who can predict the number of early morning challenges that might arise over the course of 365 days. There’s travel, illness, late nights, unforeseen circumstances, etc. to consider.

Still, the thought of capturing as many sunrise photos as possible over the course of four seasons seems like a challenge worthy of acceptance. Each night before going to bed, I set my alarm a little earlier than the night before to keep up with the accelerating rhythm of the sun’s daily revelation. The ritual of rising to greet the sun represents a personal commitment, a willingness to change routines, an acceptance of a new lifestyle designed around natural cycles.

This morning, the Havre de Grace sunrise occurred at roughly 6 a.m.  It was an event worth experiencing. I’m thankful for having been there.

The entire collection of sunrise photos can be found at a Facebook page named—what else—Havre de Grace Sunrise 365." Feel free to share your own sunrise photos on the page.
