Losing weight doesn't have to be a mystery. There are so many fad diets, systems, pre-packaged foods, gadgets, and promises. How can you possibly know what really works?
One small change, with no other adjustments to your lifestyle, can drop pounds.
No one wants to work at losing weight, but most people would agree that one change is not overwhelming. My personal training clients would literally beg me to give them an easy way to lose weight, without hours at the gym. So I started deciphering piles of weight loss materials and studied the common elements among those that were proven successful for most people. I came up with an answer that helped many clients easily lose weight. And here's the key:

Cut out flour and sugar. That's it. Simply don't eat foods that contain flour or sugar. No mysteries, no expenses, no counting calories. And be diligent: sugar is hidden in foods you might not suspect, like ketchup. It also can be listed as cane juice, sucrose, high fructose corn syrup, maple syrup, honey, and molasses.
Of course we still have to consider portion control and cooking methods (eating a pound of bacon or using a stick of butter to make your green beans more palatable aren't the best choices). Over the course of the week and in upcoming blogs, I'll outline more specific details and give you plenty of satisfying recipes so you don't run out of ideas for meals, and lots of ideas to add functional exercise to your lifestyle.

But for now, try it. For one week, simply avoid flour and sugar. For some of you it may be a big adjustment—cookies, cakes, pastries, breads, muffins, donuts are all off limits—and for others it may be a case of simply being more diligent about reading labels.
