Sharing, Safety, Sanity—There's An App For That!
Sharing, Safety, Sanity—there's an app for that! Here's FREE software that will save you time, brain cells, as it backs-up, syncs and shares your files.
This is my first Patch Blog post. I'll be introducing ways to reclaim some of the quality in your life through technology. If it's hard, costly, or complicated, you won't see it here! This is the tech column for the rest of us. You may already know about some of these apps/services/solutions/tips. If so, great! But I'll bet you'll find some new ideas too. Read on!
Here's a document day in my life: business contracts that need to be available, a logo and font to share with employees, and the latest cute photos of the grandchild. Sound familiar?
Dropbox to the rescue! I love that their tagline is: "Simplify your life." Here's how it works: Install dropbox on your computer(s) and smart phones. Drag your documents, photos, movies, etc. into your Dropbox folder(s). That's it! Your precious stuff is now synced across your devices, always safe and ready for you.

Share photos by sharing a Dropbox folder. You can "invite" folks to share a particular folder by entering their email address in the sharing dialog box. Great photos you want to share in high resolution? Invite your friends/family to share a folder and email the folder link.
Seriously, if the worst happened and all of your devices were suddenly destroyed your Dropbox files would be safe and sound. And you can access them from any computer by logging into Dropbox's website.

(I'm thinking that Dropbox may be a better permanent back-up solution than the auto-backup service I'm using now.)
Here are the details/small print:
- FREE account includes up to two gigabites of space. (Plenty of room for cute grandchild photos and normal stuff.)
- Paid accounts of 50 GB ($99/year) and 100 GB ($199/year)
- You can increase your free account by referring friends. For every friend that signs on you get 250MB up to a total of 8GB. (I am not participating in the sharing upgrades since I'm blogging about the service. )
Get started by going to the Dropbox website, watch the video and download the software.
Then get outside and enjoy this glorious day!
