The Land of Pleasant Living

My thoughts and reflections on Havre de Grace

From time to time, luck guides us in wonderful directions. This happened to my family a little over a decade ago, when we discovered Havre de Grace. My first impression of my new home was on Christmas. It felt like magic I had never witnessed, something so warm and welcoming. I can remember bells being draped across the city while glowing lights illuminated the trees. A scene so American and so impressive that it could have inspired Norman Rockwell. I knew I was home.

Since then, I have experienced all of the seasons and the voyage between them. Fall brings a sense of reflection, with a soundtrack of leaves crunching during long, chilly walks. Watching our beloved waterfowl migrate north is something special that only those living in our town on the water can share. Lawn chairs get stowed away and replaced by jack o’lanterns and scarecrows. As we move from the fall harvest to shorter days, the Christmas lights begin to illuminate the town. The snow covers the city, as if Mother Nature created a beautiful masterpiece. Eventually, the ice breaks and the flowers begin to bloom. The new warmth energizes the community. Everyone knows summer is upon us. When Memorial Day finally arrives, Havre de Grace truly becomes the land of pleasant living.

Regardless of the time of year, we always have a vast amount of resources that rival any other town. Those resources do not lie in the ground or in the depths of our bay.  They’re found within the community. We are truly blessed to live in such a profitable town. The value of Havre de Grace can not be totaled in dollars or in cents, but in amount of hours our citizens give back. While we live in a small town, we live in a big community.
