Originally built around 1918, the Bayou Hotel was designed to host an upscale crowd. Through the 1920s, it lived up to its high expectations. Unfortunately the Great Depression forced the lavish hotel to shut its doors. Soon after closing, the Bayou was bought by the Francis Sisters and converted into a senior home for women under the new name St. Francis Villa. In 1953, Dr. Foley purchased the property and began renting apartments in the building. Eventually is 1976, Foley sold the property to the City of Havre de Grace. During this period, the Bayou alas suffered from notable fire damage from criminal behavior. The bayside property was eventually sold and transformed into high-end condominiums.
