BLOG: We Don't Want to Lose Our Walmart!

Residents of Abingdon including Delegate Glen Glass do not want to lose their Walmart!

The recent plan of the Abingdon Walmart to close and move to Bel Air as a 24 hour Super Walmart has sparked a very loud debate among community residents and Harford County Government officials. I would like to take the time to explain my current position.

Abingdon is part of my district and I absolutely oppose this plan. It is very inconvenient for my constituents to have to drive to Bel Air to shop at Walmart especially when the current location is conveniently located off of I-95 and Rt. 24. Having made the drive myself, I can verify the rigors that they would encounter. The proposed Bel Air location is in a residential area near a school and will greatly increase the heavy traffic that currently exists in the area. Many people in Bel Air are opposed to the Walmart relocation and expansion and they are content to shop at the Falston Walmart. Currently there is a petition drive, which I have signed, that opposes Walmart’s plan. I have written letters to County Council Members and the Harford County Executive expressing my concerns. Please feel free to contact me if you wish to discuss this further. I would love to hear from you and your thoughts regarding this issue. You can email me at glen.glass@house.state.md.us or call my office at (410) 841-3280.

Sincerely,
Your Servant and Delegate Glen Glass
