On Tuesday, I went to Weiss to re-provision my larder. I purchased loose white baking potatoes (99c per pound), a cauliflower ($3.99) and a top round of beef ($12.00). I returned home immediately, and the cauliflower and the beef were refrigerated.
Tonight I decided to have cauliflower cheese; that was until I opened the wrapping, and found 75% of the produce rotting and inedible.
OK, I managed to salvage 25% of the cauliflower, but I needed to supplement it with something, so I peeled one of the baking potatoes. To find it totally infested with worm, and therefore inedible was, after my experience with the cauliflower, perhaps not such a great surprise. However, the store could, easily and cheaply, prevent this problem; http://www.sensorland.com/HowPage057.html

However, the thrill was not quite over; the beef that I purchased with a "Sell by" date of 5/11 had adopted that grey/silver sheen, indicating it was "on the turn". The odor, when I opened the package, backed this up.
At first, I thought my fridge was at fault, so I checked the temperatures; all perfect.

I have complained to Weiss several times before, always about produce, and always received the standard response; "Thank you for your input, we will investigate."
My total bill for that expedition slightly exceeded $40, of which a little more that 50% was useless/damaged/spoilt.
You might say, "Don't shop at Weiss", but if you want brand names, they are the only game in town.
