What Will You Do THIS Year?

It was December 31, New Year's Eve, and I was skimming Facebook. Many of my friends had already posted New Year's resolutions...I was still recuperating from Christmas.

It was December 31, New Year's Eve, and I was skimming Facebook.  Many of my friends had already posted New Year's Resolutions or thoughts on the matter.   I was still recuperating from Christmas.

At the beginning of December, I had grand plans to make the week between Christmas and New Year's very productive from a planning standpoint.  But I had a strong desire to focus homeward instead.  So much of our time is spent busily moving from one activity to the next that it is important, in those rare instances, to stop and give the moment at hand it's due time.  So I waited and put off making plans for 2013.

Initially, I felt a little behind the game to think that it was already December 31, 2012 and I had not made my resolutions for 2013.  I am an avid goal setter and I love the reflective nature of New Year's that allows for reviewing the past and planning for the future.  But then I realized, it is really the entire month of January that begs to be the planning month.  It is cold, at least here in the north east, and still dark and the desire to stay in, reading, dreaming and writing, is strong.  So now I have weeks to reflect, to plan and to prepare for what is in store in 2013.  I no longer feel behind.

I will tackle the project of resolving a little at a time, every day and set myself up for a fantastically productive year.  In the classes I teach I often talk about the rule of thumb that 1 hour of planning saves 10 hours of doing.  So I like to think that 1 month of planning will save 10 months of spinning my wheels aimlessly.

If you agree, if you would like to create your new year's resolutions along with me, please comment below.  And if you need a little help in the process, I hope you will join me on January 25, 2012 to attend the goal setting seminar "Dreams to ACTION!"  The link to register is http://dreamstoaction.eventbrite.com and you may use the code RESOLVE to save $10 off until January 7.

So, to start this month off right I will be thinking about what went well in 2012 and why...What will you be doing?
