Why a Spa Day for Single Moms?

I am a stay-at-home mom of a 1-year-old.  I work one day a week, and the rest of the days I am at home with him. Most days I count down the minutes until my husband will return home at the end of the day so I can have a few minutes to regroup, shower or go to the bathroom alone! While I love being home with him it is tiring. I consider myself so blessed! 

I have several friends that are single moms, some work full-time or part-time; some stay home. Whatever the case, I have so much respect for them! There are no breaks for some single moms. Get up get kids ready for daycare/school, go to work, pick up kids, make dinner, bathe kids, etc. Go to bed and restart the day. 

Of course I believe all moms and dads are deserving of a special day, but unfortunately Good Cause (www.serveagoodcause.org) can't help everyone at once. So last year Good Cause decided it would have a Spa Day for Single Moms. Primarily from local shelters, crisis pregnancy centers, etc. Good Cause offers manicures, hair trims/styles, neck/shoulder massages, eyebrow waxing, feather extensions, & glamour shots all for FREE. Childcare will also be provided, along w/ light snacks.

I can say it was one of the most touching things I have been a part of. Last year one mom had stage four breast cancer and had never had a manicure before. I watched as she cried while she got her manicure. Or the mom who has been in a shelter for several months and gone without a hair cut or buying any make-up to save up money for an apartment to get away from an abusive relationship. 

We would love to have you be a part of such a momentous day. If you are interested in volunteering we would love to have you join us! The Spa Day will take place Saturday, May 12 from 9-4 p.m. We are primarily still in need of licensed cosmetologists to apply make-up, do manicures. Also we need massage therapists to offer neck/shoulder massages.
