HdG Citizens Take Stand about Concord Street on Election Day
Residents expressed mixed sentiments about the proposed $1.29 million property purchase via signs outside St. Patrick Hall.
In addition to signs for candidates, there was one issue on the ballot that prompted citizens to plant signs outside St. Patrick Hall on Tuesday: Question B.
Question B deals with the Concord Street property that the city has proposed purchasing for $1.29 million. The full ballot question is below:
Question B. The Mayor and City Council of Havre de Grace propose to purchase the real property known as 701 Concord Street in Havre de Grace which is comprised of four lots between Concord Street and the Chesapeake Bay adjacent to the lighthouse. The purchase price is One Million Two Hundred Ninety Thousand Dollars ($1,290,000.00). The City appraisal for the property was One Million Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($1,300,000.00). A deposit of Forty Thousand Dollars ($40,000.00) was paid to the Seller with the remainder to be paid over a period of twenty-five (25) years with interest at 4.00% pursuant to a City note and/or bond. Settlement is to occur on or before January 1, 2014. The Mayor and City Council intend to transform the property into a City waterfront park.
