Bobcat Caused Building Blaze Near HdG, Officials Say

The building was a 10-car garage, Harford County fire officials said.

Vapors from a Bobcat sparked a building fire in the Level area Saturday morning, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. The blaze began when the Bobcat gasoline vapors made contact with the engine during refueling, according to the report.

One firefighter was injured as a result, Harford County officials said.

At 11:27 a.m., crews were called to the 3400 block of Old Level Road for a reported building fire, according to the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association. The building was a 10-car garage, according to the association.

It contained a Bobcat zero turn lawn mower, 2010 Ford F150 pickup and other items, the fire marshal reported.

Forty-five firefighters responded, the fire marshal said, from Level, Havre de Grace, Bel Air, Aberdeen, APG, Abingdon, Rising Sun and Darlington. By noon, officials said most of the fire had been knocked down.

One firefighter sustained injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, according to the report from Harford County officials.

The blaze caused $300,000 in structural damage, the fire marshal said; also, $200,000 worth of items inside the garage were lost as well.
