David Craig Says Running Mate 'Will Work for the People...Not the Government'

The Harford County executive running for Maryland governor will announce Tuesday who his partner in the 2014 race will be.

Harford County Executive David Craig, who is running for the Republican nomination in Maryland's 2014 gubernatorial race, will deliver a major announcement Tuesday in Annapolis.

"Join me on July 16th as I formally announce my running mate," Craig wrote in an email to supporters on Monday, July 15.

Craig's spokesman has already confirmed that he will be selecting Delegate Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio (R-Eastern Shore) as the candidate for lieutenant governor.

In his message to supporters, Craig listed why he chose his partner, whom he did not name.

"Marylanders are tired of business as usual. They are tired of a government monopoly that works for itself," Craig wrote. "That is why I am so proud to be announcing a running mate with years of experience and service to the people of Maryland."

Craig described his partner as follows:

  • a running mate who recognizes that Maryland is losing economic ground in the region and who is ready to tackle this problem head on.
  • a running mate who is ready to make education about real results and the future of Maryland's students regardless of what we are told by politicians and trade publications.
  • a running mate who champions environmental policies that are based on facts not fads and flashy headlines
  • a running mate who will work for the people of Maryland not the government.
Continued Craig: "The time is now. We cannot afford to wait. Join the team, and together, we can fix this. Cordially, David R. Craig Harford County Executive."

At 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Craig will formally announce his running mate during an event on Lawyers Mall (90 State Cir.) in Annapolis. At 5 p.m. Tuesday, he will hold a second conference on the Eastern Shore at Harbourtowne Golf Resort and Conference Center (9784 Martingham Cir.) in St. Michaels.
