ALASH ENSEMBLE returns here from TUVA, Russia, the geographical center of Asia located where Siberia
meets Mongolia. This group of four Master Throat Singers tours the world performing and preserving
the art of their ancient, cultural, traditional song‐stories and unique instrumentation. This music reflects
their strong commitment to the ancestral traditions that are imbedded in the life style of their
homeland.
THROAT SINGERS were herding horsemen without a written language thus they communicated their
stories through the nights with “overtone” singing; a remarkable technique of producing multiple
pitches or chords with one voice. To tell their stories, they created ethereal sounds of their natural
surroundings; the streams, wind, birds and horses moving around their rugged, barren, vast permafrost
lands called steppes.
In 2009, they sold out here in Havre de Grace after their appearance at the Kennedy Center and
Philadelphia Rotunda. This is a must see performance, a remarkable experience.
