exfoliant use

Hello! If you are not already using an exfoliant you might want to start adding it to your skin care at home routine. There are two types of exfoliants. The first one most people are familiar with, it is a physical exfoliant. This would be like a scrub, where you are physically are removing dead skin. the second kind is a chemical exfoliant where you use enzymes and chemical substances to eat away, or peel the dead layers off.  depending on the ingredients and your skin issues would determine the type you would use. On average most people only need to exfoliate twice a week. the average skin cell is born and dies  within a certain amount of days. if you are 18 it might take a skin cell to  be born and die off in 18 days, a 40 year old it takes about 40 days. So you guessed it- the older you are the more help your skin needs to get the dead cells off and to stimulate the production of new cells through a turnover process. if you have sensitive skin a more enzymatic exfoliant might be better than a griitty skin scrub. remember less is more. Sometimes people with acne also do better with a chemical exfoliant  also so the friction of a scrub doesn't  cause any more damage to the skins surface.  I think most people want to scrub really hard when using scrubs, so take it a little easy. Also don't forget to use only lukewarm water when doing this step in your routine!
