M & M Sports Blaze in Elkton Causes $1.5 Million in Damage: Officials

The Susquehanna Hose Company helped extinguish the blaze, the fire marshal reported.

Deputy state fire marshals said Saturday that investigators remained at the scene of a blaze in Cecil County that overtook a business Friday night.

At 9:32 p.m. on Friday, a passerby called 911 to report a fire at M & M Sports in the 300 block of Pulaski Highway in Elkton, the fire marshal said.

Investigators determined that the fire started inside toward the rear of the the 6,000-square-foot building, according to the fire marshal.

It took 50 firefighters approximately three hours to bring the blaze under control, according to the report from the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

Crews from Havre de Grace, Perryville, Rising Sun, Chesapeake City, North East and Elkton responded, the report said.

There was an estimated $1.5 million dollars in damage to the structure and its contents, the fire marshal reported.

Investigators from the fire marshal's office are still working to determine the cause, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, according to the fire marshal.
