Food Network to Showcase Laurrapin Chef on Upcoming 'Chopped' Episode

A chef whose creations have dazzled diners in Havre de Grace will be on Food Network this week.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Those tuning into "Chopped" on Thursday may see a familiar face on the Food Network.

Kristina Sciarra of Laurrapin will be a contestant on the Oct. 13 episode of the show, which challenges a group of chefs to see who can best use a basket of ingredients to cook a meal in a timed competition. They must use everything they are given.

Some examples of ingredients Chopped commonly uses include kumquats, duck breast, rhubarb and chard.

Sciarra filmed the episode several months ago in New York, according to The Aegis, which reported that it was done in one day, from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The chef could not reveal the outcome of the episode but did tell the newspaper of her creation: "...it could have been better." She will have the opportunity for a do-over because Laurrapin is presenting dishes inspired by the ingredients she used on the show the night it airs.

Sciarra reportedly said that there was no theme for the episode, but the ingredient that all her work has is love, which she learned from her culinary teachers and inspirations her grandmother and great-grandmother.
