Harold Farrand Ball, 96, Of Havre de Grace

Harold Farrand Ball, 96, of Havre de Grace, passed away on May 29, 2017, at Jenner’s Pond Assisted Living Center. He was born in Bel Air in 1921, the son of the late James Harvey Ball and Maud Smith Ball.

Mr. Ball is survived by his children Ronald H. Ball and his wife Jane, of Gaithersburg, MD, and Sharon Ball Pelletier and her husband Laurence of West Grove, PA. He is predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Helen Hopkins Ball, and his three brothers, James, Robert and John.

Mr. Ball graduated from Bel Air High School. He served in the U. S. Army for 3 ½ years during World War II as a dental technician, being stationed in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. Following his wartime service, he returned to his job as a chemical engineering technician at the Army Chemical Center at Edgewood Arsenal/Aberdeen Proving Ground where he worked for 34 years. Upon retirement, he worked for several years as a Harford County housing inspector. Following his second retirement in 1984, he and his wife spent more time traveling, their favorite pastime. Throughout his life he visited 49 states, Canada, Europe, the Caribbean, Central America and Australia.

Mr. Ball was a member of Rock Run United Methodist Church before transferring his membership to Havre de Grace United Methodist Church more than 40 years ago. He was a member of American Legion Post 47 and active with the March of Dimes. He and his wife were avid fans of the University of Delaware Football program and would travel to see all of their games. They also enjoyed spending their winter months on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

A viewing will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017, from 5-7 p.m., at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington St., Havre de Grace.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 3, at 10 a.m., at Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, 101 South Union Avenue, Havre de Grace.

Pastor Norman Obenshain will officiate. Interment will be at Harford Memorial Gardens.
