Have de Grace City Yacht Basin Receives State Grant
The grant from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources will go toward improving boating access to Havre de Grace.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — The city of Havre de Grace has received funding from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to improve the City Yacht Basin, officials announced this week.
The funding will allow for dredging fairways, the marina basin and approach channel, according to natural resources officials.
The grant comes from the department's Waterway Improvement Fund, which helps improve public boating access and navigation statewide. A total of $10.5 million will be doled out for projects around Maryland. The fund is made possible through vessel fuel and title taxes.

“The Waterway Improvement Fund is a vital state resource that ensures that residents and visitors alike will continue to benefit from Maryland’s world-class recreational boating opportunities for years to come," Natural Resources Secretary Mark Belton said in a statement. "From cruising the Chesapeake Bay to maneuvering the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean, boating is a way of life in Maryland."

- Charlestown received funds for dredging Back Creek Basin and the town dock slips. A separate grant will go toward purchasing a fire/rescue boat for the Charlestown Volunteer Fire Company.
- North East received a grant to construct breakwaters for the Rogues Harbor boating facility at Elk Neck State Park.
- Edgewood will get a grant toward engineering, permitting and renovation to raise the pier at Flying Point Park. A separate grant will support engineering for dredging Otter Point Creek on the Bush River.
