Havre de Grace Applies for FEMA Funding

Four months after Hurricane Sandy stormed through Maryland and up the east coast, Havre de Grace is applying for funding to recoup damage costs.

The city is in the process of applying for $62,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), deputy director of administration Jim Newby said at a recent Havre de Grace City Council meeting.

Since Havre de Grace is a municipality within Harford County, the county is submitting the overall request.

"FEMA has been working with both the county departments/agencies and the three municipalities, the (Harford County Sheriff's Office), (Harford County Public Schools), and Harford Community College as well as several of the volunteer fire companies on reimbursements," Linda Ploener, of Harford County Division of Emergency Operations, told Patch.

Some agencies in Harford County will receive funding in the next four weeks, Ploener said. For the rest, there is no specific timetable.

Said Ploener: "FEMA will continue to work with our contacts until all reimbursement paperwork has been completed and processed."
