Havre de Grace Ice Festival: Hours, Events, Traffic

The city of Havre de Grace is hosting its first-ever Ice Festival this weekend. Get information about what will be there.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — The weather may be chilly this weekend but the good news is, the first Havre de Grace Ice Festival will go on. The Havre de Grace Alliance, which is sponsoring the event, announced that the festival is a "go."

In addition to activities from ice carving to a parade of ice princes and princesses, several businesses in town are offering deals for shoppers and diners during the festival. They are listed at the end of the article.

The Havre de Grace Ice Festival will be from 3-7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, and noon-4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20.

Saturday, Jan. 19

  • 11 a.m.: "Frozen" movie plays at the opera house, 121 N.Union Ave. Free for those 13 and younger. All others $6.
  • 3 p.m.: Ribbon-cutting at Rochambeau Plaza, St. John at N. Washington near Green Street
  • 3 p.m.: Fire eater/magician downtown
  • 3 p.m.: Bridal open house at La Banque de Fleuve, 321 St. John St.
  • 3-7 p.m.: Chili Cookoff. Buy a taster's card for $5 at the info booth on North Washington at Pennington. Then visit the participants, try their chili and vote on your favorite; your tasting card will become your ballot for the contest. These are the participating restaurants: Coakleys Pub, 406 St. John St.; Creole de Graw, 400 N. Union Ave.; George's Original Chicken House, 109 N. Washington St.; Lagom, 209 N. Washington St.; MacGregor's, 331 St. John St.; and Vandiver Inn, 301 S. Union Ave.
  • 3-7 p.m.: Painting demonstration by Catherine Valle at Arts by the Bay, 307 St. John St.
  • 3-7 p.m.: Santa carvers Harold and Anna Goodman, Vincenti Decoys, 353 Pennington Ave.
  • 4 p.m.: Live ice carving at Rochambeau Plaza, St. John at N. Washington
  • 4-5 p.m.: Cake decorating at Sweet Eats, 311 St. John St.
  • 6-8 p.m.: Adult cake decorating class at Sweet Eats, 311 St. John St.
  • 8 p.m.: Hot Club acoustic jazz ensemble, 121 N. Union Ave.

Sunday, Jan. 20

  • 12-3 p.m.: Free ice train
  • 12-4 p.m.: Sami Saver jewelry demonstration, Arts by the Bay, 307 St. John St.
  • 12-4 p.m.: Santa carvers Harold and Anna Goodman, Vincenti Decoys, 353 Pennington Ave.
  • 1 p.m.: Live ice carving, Visitor Center, 450 Pennington Ave.
  • 1 p.m.: Elsa and Friends live show at the opera house, 121 N. Union Ave., $5
  • 1-3 p.m.: Soup sale at Weedon Elliot VFW, 300 N. Lodge St.
  • 1-4 p.m.: Lord of the Wings hot wing eating contest, 331 St. John St.
  • 1:45 p.m.: Registration closes for ice prince/princess parade, at information booth at North Washington at Pennington
  • 2 p.m.: Ice Prince/Princess Parade for kids 13 and under, N. Washington to Franklin streets
  • 3:30 p.m.: Elsa and Friends live show at the opera house, 121 N. Union Ave., $5; get tickets

Traffic Alert

The city of Havre de Grace will close roads downtown from 2 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20.

Drivers should anticipate an increase in both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
