Havre de Grace Man Joins Liquor Board

The director of the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum was approved by the County Council Tuesday as a new member of the Harford County Liquor Board, The Baltimore Sun reported.

C. John Sullivan, Jr., who has background in government, was one of two men that the county executive recommended for the liquor board's openings, according to The Aegis; the other was Vernon Gauss, who is currently a board member.

The Harford County Liquor Control Board consists of five members, in addition to administrators and an inspector.

Its primary function is to make decisions about alcohol licenses and permits based on the county's alcoholic beverage laws. The board acts as a nonprofit agency that serves the county government.

Sullivan is no stranger to government; he held leadership roles at Maryland and Harford County's Department of Assessments and Taxation.

His brother-in-law, Donald St. Clair Hess, is the current chair of the board, and The Aegis reports Hess was not recommended for a seventh term by County Executive David Craig, who submitted the nominations to the state delegation recently.
