Havre de Grace Man Charged with Sex Abuse

The man, who works as a teacher in Baltimore County, allegedly engaged in inappropriate relationship with student.

A Havre de Grace man who teaches in Baltimore County is facing charges in connection with an allegedly inappropriate relationship with a Towson High School student, according to police.

Richard James Hanna, 36, of the 4000 block of Rock Run Road, is charged with sex abuse of a minor, second-degree child abuse and a fourth-degree sex offense, according to court records.

According to police, Hanna is a teacher at Towson High School, where a student reported that in March their relationship became physical.

Police said Hanna would drive the student to local parks—Cromwell Valley Park, Roland Park and Wyman Park—then touch her over her clothing “in inappropriate areas” and kiss her. Hanna also drove the student to work and home, according to police.

Investigators said the two did not have intercourse, and the student did not touch Hanna in inappropriate areas. Emails between the two referenced kissing and “sexualized writing,” according to police.

Court records indicate the charges stem from incidents between March 23 and May 15.

Hanna was served with a warrant in Harford County, according to Cpl. John Wachter of the Baltimore County Police Department. He posted $10,000 bail and was released on Sunday, police reported.
