Havre de Grace Man Killed in Double Homicide in Aberdeen

Police said a Havre de Grace man was one of two people killed in early Monday morning shooting in Aberdeen; suspect is at large.

Aberdeen, MD — A Havre de Grace resident was one of two people killed early Monday morning in Aberdeen, officials say.

Police responded to the unit block of East Bel Air Avenue at 3:15 a.m. for a report of shots fired and found two victims.

"The shooter(s) fled the scene," Detective Sergeant Will Reiber told Patch.

Jumal R. Dudley, 43, of Havre de Grace, was flown in critical condition to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where Aberdeen Police said he later died.

Taneisha C. Smothers, 31, of Aberdeen, was found unresponsive and pronounced deceased at the scene, according to police.

Officials said the victims knew one another.

Family members said that Smothers and Dudley were a coupleThe Aegis reported, and neither lived at the apartment complex where investigators discovered them.

Police reported that all schools in the area were operating on regular schedules.

"Investigators quickly determined that there was no longer an active shooter threat, so no school or other community activities were altered as a result of this incident," Aberdeen Police said in a statement. 

"The scene was  determined to be safe after a scene canvass by arriving investigators," according to Reiber.
