Havre de Grace Speedboat Racer: 'One of the Hottest Drivers in the Sport'

Jimmy Shane won back-to-back races on the hydroplane racing circuit.

Jimmy Shane was the "guy to beat," according to speedboat racers competing over the holiday weekend in Idaho; however, nobody managed to surpass him and his hydroplane.

Shane, who hails from Havre de Grace, brought home first place in the Coeur d'Alene Diamond Cup in Idaho Sept. 2, according to the Kent Reporter.

He drove the fastest lap of the race—a 49.7-second mile—and clocked speeds up to 145 mph in the boat he pilots, which is owned by Graham Trucking, the Coeur d'Alene Press reported.

The Havre de Grace man's latest win came on the heels of another first-place run, in Seattle, KHQ reported.

Shane's fans are spread worldwide, as the racing circuit has taken him to foreign waters such as Qatar, where he won a world championship earlier this year.

The NBC affiliate in Washington called Shane "one of the hottest drivers in the sport" after his Labor Day weekend win.

His next race is Sept. 13 to 15 in San Diego.

"I go out and drive as hard as I can," Shane told the Kent Reporter, "and sometimes it works out."
